E’ un film del 2019 girato da Tod Philipp e scritto dallo stesso regista e da Scott Silver, la storia è basata sul famoso villan dei fumetti DC Comics e vede Joaquin Phoenix ad interpretare il protagonista. Il film ha vinto il 76° Leone D’oro al Festival di Venezia vincendo inoltre due Golden Globe e due Oscar con ben undici candidature tra cui anche quella per Il Miglior Film al 92° Academy Awards.

PERSONAGGI

Arthur Fleck/Joker:  Interpretato da Joaquin Phoenix, in questo film Arthur è un aspirante attore comico che recita nei cabaret della città di Gotham facendo anche l’artista di strada. Arthur soffre di una sindrome pseudo bulbare, un disturbo che non gli permette di controllare i muscoli facciali. L’attore ha dovuto perdere ben 24 chili, modificare la propria risata e movimenti facciali per interpretare la parte del protagonista .

Penny Fleck: Interpretata dall’attrice Frances Conroy ed è la madre anziana e malata di Arthur, mentre nel flasckback è interpretata da Hannah Gross.

Murray Franklin: Interpretato da Robert DeNiro, ed è il presentatore di un famoso Talk Show del quale Arthur ne è molto appassionato e ne prende inspirazione per i suoi numeri di cabaret, alla fine Murray però compie un passo falso nei confronti di quest’ultimo che gli farà pagare duramente durante in diretta TV

Sophie Dumond: Interpretata dall’attrice Zazie Beetz, è una ragazza madre di cui Arthur se ne  innamora

TRAMA
Arthur Fleck vive da solo con sua madre, Penny, lavorando nel mondo dello spettacolo come cabarettista e artista di strada egli soffre di una sindrome pseudo bulbare, un disturbo che purtroppo non gli permette di controllare i muscoli facciali, a causa di questo viene spesso preso in giro dai coetanei e altrettanto non viene capito quando gli capita in pubblico. Una sera mentre tornava a casa, in metro incontra tre giovani che cominciano a deriderlo per poi  picchiarlo, Arthur si difende sparandogli con un’arma regalatagli da un collega di lavoro.

SVILUPPO DELLA SCENEGGIATURA
Inizialmente Joaquin Phoenix era molto interessato a dover lavorare ad un film con uno studio di un personaggio dei fumetti e anche se il suo agente gli aveva detto che poteva sottoporre la sua idea alla Warner Bros l’attore ci aveva ripensato per il fatto che ci fossero molte versioni del suo personaggio e che fossero state trattate in maniera molto simile a quello che aveva lui in mente, ma  nel 2016 Todd Philipps presentò l’idea alla Warner che scrivere una sceneggiatura sulle origine del Joker.

PRE-PRODUZIONE
Dopo l’entrata di Joaquin Phoenix nel cast si diede il via alla produzione e in seguito la Warner dichiarò che la storia del personaggio era scollegata dal Joker di Jared Leto puntando a fare il film solo per i maggiorenni. A Luglio 2018 la produzione fu interessata a chiamare Robert De Niro e Zaize Beets per dei ruoli da non protagonisti di primo piano

COLONNA SONORA
La musicista Hildur Guðnadóttir scrisse la colonna sonora del film, e Tod Philipps rimase molto colpito da come scrisse la colonna sonora del film Soldado e prima che il regista le consegnasse la sceneggiatura lei era già pronta con alcune tracce prima dell’inizio delle riprese, la musicista dichiarò che fu alquanto complicato dovendo lavorare in contemporanea anche alla colonna sonora della serie TV di Chernobyl che ovviamente è molto diversa da quella del Joker.

DIVIETI
La visione di questo film negli Stati Uniti è stato vietato ai minori di 17 anni, mentre per l’Italia è stato vietato ai 14,  a causa dei comportamenti violenti e linguaggio scurrile.

JOKER

It is a 2019 film shot by Tod Philipp and written by the same director and Scott Silver, the story is based on the famous DC Comics comic villain and sees Joaquin Phoenix playing the protagonist. The film won the 76th Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, also winning two Golden Globes and two Oscars with eleven nominations including one for Best Film at the 92nd Academy Awards.

CHARACTERS
Arthur Fleck / Joker: Played by Joaquin Phoenix, in this film Arthur is an aspiring comic actor who plays in the cabarets of the city of Gotham also being a street artist. Arthur suffers from a pseudo-bulbar syndrome, a disorder that does not allow him to control his facial muscles. The actor had to lose 24 kilos, change his laugh and facial movements to play the part of the protagonist.

PLOT
Arthur Fleck lives alone with his mother, Penny, working in show business as a cabaret artist and street artist he suffers from a pseudo-bulbar syndrome, a disorder that unfortunately does not allow him to control the facial muscles, because of this he is often taken around by peers and equally is not understood when it happens in public. One evening on his way home, he meets three young men on the metro who begin to mock him and then beat him, Arthur defends himself by shooting him with a weapon given to him by a colleague at work.

SCREENPLAY DEVELOPMENT
Joaquin Phoenix was initially very interested in having to work on a film with a studio of a comic book character and although his agent had told him that he could submit his idea to Warner Bros the actor had second thoughts about the fact that there were many versions of his character and that had been treated very similarly to what he had in mind, but in 2016 Todd Philipps presented Warner’s idea that writing a screenplay about the origin of the Joker.

PRE-PRODUCTION
After Joaquin Phoenix joined the cast, production started and Warner later declared that the story of the character was disconnected from Jared Leto’s Joker aiming to make the film only for adults. In July 2018, the production was interested in calling Robert De Niro and Zaize Beets for leading roles.

SOUNDTRACK
Musician Hildur Guðnadóttir wrote the soundtrack for the film, and Tod Philipps was very impressed with how he wrote the soundtrack for the movie Soldado and before the director gave her the script she was ready with some tracks before shooting began, the musician declared that it was somewhat complicated having to work simultaneously on the soundtrack of the Chernobyl TV series which obviously is very different from that of the Joker.

BANS
The viewing of this film in the United States has been banned for children under 17, while for Italy it has been forbidden for 14, due to violent behavior and bad language.
